Community-acquired pneumonia: diagnosis and treatment

Abstract
Community-Acquired Pneumonia is an acute infectious disease of the pulmonary parenchyma. S. pneumoniae is the principal infectious pathogen, but also virus, fungus, and other bacterial agents would be the initial point of the disease. Major risk groups are patients younger than 2-year-old and more than 60 years old, and multiple comorbidities patients. Fever, cough, dyspnea, and hemoptysis are part of the principal symptoms, nevertheless, the patients can take an atypically presentation of the disease, identifying epidemiologically the possible agents involve in each patient is vital – to establish an empirical large spectrum antibiotic in the first hours after admission. There are systems like CURB65, PSI, qSOFA that allow ambulatory attention or requirements of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the estimation of mortality.
