Compensation, remuneration for subjects participating in biomedical research

Abstract

This article aims to provide an approach to the subject to have a global vision of what are the main objectives sought when paying for the participation of people in biomedical research; The different forms of payment or compensation are described, considering their advantages and disadvantages for both the participant and the researcher.


In the same way, some of the ethical and legal guidelines that currently exist at the international level are incorporated, which must be considered by the different ethical committees. In addition, informed consent requirements and special considerations for biomedical research in vulnerable populations are described. Finally, the legal situation in Costa Rica regarding this situation is described.
