Andrés Saborío-Bejarano

Abstract

Painter born in Saint-Maurice Charenton, in 1799. He is the most distinguished representative of the French romantic school. From childhood he devoted himself to music and drawing, but after an early fundamental classical teaching, he entered the Paris School of Fine Arts, where he was a disciple of Baron Guérin. He spent a lot of time copying masterpieces at the Louvre Museum. At the age of 20, he painted "Dante's Boat", a classic theme treated in an anticlassical form of spirit, and in which the experimental handling of planes and the degree of tension was never matched, nor by the author himself. With the painting on scenes of "The Slaughter of Quios" painted back in 1823, he achieved a true masterpiece of romantic painting with unforgettable characters, with accents of deep drama and a remoteness of soft nuances.
